California State Bar

Jon Pfeiffer and Neil Wertlieb, members of the Business Litigation Committee of the State Bar of California's Business Law Section, will be presenting "The Effective and Ethical Use of Expert Witnesses" on September 30, 2016. The presentation will be at the 2016 State Bar Annual Meeting and will explore the use of expert witnesses in litigation. Topics include: how to effectively use an expert; the ethical and practical constraints on use of expert witnesses, including when the expert is an attorney; evidentiary rules that govern expert testimony; and key considerations the expert should address with retaining counsel before the scope of his or her testimony is even discussed. On top of that, this program will also help litigators maximize the value of their experts by providing insights into how experts often view their own role and how early interactions can help or hurt your case.

Panelists for this event include Jon Pfeiffer, an entertainment trial attorney with over 30 years of trial experience, who often utilizes expert witnesses in his practice; and Neil Wertlieb, a corporate attorney and UCLA Law Professor who has served as an expert witness in numerous cases. Introducing the panelists will be Peter Bronson, the Co-Chair of the Business Litigation Committee and also a former Chair of the Business Law Section.

This program provides 1.5 hours of MCLE credit, including .5 hours in Ethics.
